Whilst looking for a ball the dogs had lost, we came across an original water supply here at Cathair Dhubh. This appears to be spring water appearing at the bottom of the hillside. Some of the surrounding facing stones are out of position, but Roger is hoping to reset them. Once the interior has been cleaned out we’ll have the water tested and give it a tasting! Two other wells have been re-located nearby beside the B869 road, whilst there is a similar well/spring on the north side of Achmelvich which was frequented by and immortalised in the poems of the poet Norman MacCaig.
